Pithora art is a vibrant ritualistic painting tradition of the Rathwa and Bhilala tribes from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, created primarily by men to honor their deity, Baba Pithora.

With origins in ancient cave art, these paintings are rich in mythological symbolism and are believed to bring prosperity and protection.

Traditionally, walls are prepared with a mixture of cow dung, clay, and lime by young unmarried girls, after which artists use natural and synthetic colors to depict scenes of gods, animals, and daily life using twigs, stems, or brushes.

The process is highly ceremonial, guided by priests who chant blessings, and the finished artwork is celebrated with community festivities.

Today, Pithora art also appears on textiles and paper, blending traditional motifs with modern elements, making it a unique and culturally significant art form.
