Vriksha Pattachitra is a nature-themed form of Pattachitra painting from Odisha, especially around Puri and Raghurajpur. It dates back to the 12th century, rooted in the Jagannath temple traditions.

Made by hereditary artisans called Chitrakaras, who pass down the art across generations. These paintings were used in temples when deities were hidden during rituals. The tree represents life, divinity, and creation, inspired by sacred trees like the Kalpavriksha and Bodhi tree from Hindu and Buddhist lore.

A central, stylised tree is surrounded by birds, animals, gods, and floral designs. The style is flat, vibrant, detailed, with natural colours like red, yellow, black, and blue.

Painted on cotton cloth coated with chalk and tamarind gum, outlined with soot or mineral dyes, filled with natural pigments, and finished with a lacquer shine. Cotton cloth, tamarind gum, natural dyes from minerals and plants, handmade brushes.
