Kalamkari is a traditional Indian art form known for its intricate hand-painted and block-printed designs on fabric. The name comes from the Persian words “Kalam” (pen) and “Kari” (craftsmanship), meaning “art done with a pen.”

Originating over 3,000 years ago in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Kalamkari blends storytelling, spirituality, and nature.
• Srikalahasti style: Freehand painting using natural dyes and a bamboo pen.
• Machilipatnam style: Wooden block printing with hand-filled colors.

Completely eco-friendly, this art uses cotton or silk fabric, natural dyes (from indigo, pomegranate, and madder root), and depicts mythological, floral, and geometric motifs—each telling a story of India’s timeless heritage.
