Santhal Art

Nature Storytelling Art

AED 495

Sessions:  2
Hrs per Session:  2

Santhal art originates from the Santhal tribe, India’s third-largest tribal community, spread across Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Assam.

Deeply rooted in nature worship and folklore, Santhal paintings depict rural life, forest scenes, animals, and the journey of the soul after death.

Traditionally painted on cloth using natural pigments from leaves, flowers, mud, and charcoal, these artworks are colorful and expressive, focused more on storytelling than realism.

Scroll paintings, once used in rituals for the deceased, have evolved onto paper and canvas.

Participants will learn the symbolic motifs, create their own scroll-inspired work using traditional and modern materials, and experience one of India’s most soulful and minimalist tribal art forms.
