Aipan Art is a traditional ritualistic art form from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, rooted in the word Arpan, meaning “to offer.”
Practiced mainly by women, especially in Brahmin households, it is created during religious festivals and life events like weddings and childbirth to invite divine blessings and ward off evil.
Deeply symbolic and spiritual, Aipan features motifs such as Saraswati Chowki (for knowledge), Lakshmi Padchinha (for prosperity), and Nav Durga (for protection), each carrying religious significance.
The art is made using a red ochre base (geru) and white rice paste (biswar), applied by hand in symmetrical, linear designs.
Traditionally drawn on walls and floors, Aipan is now also adapted onto paper, fabric, and décor items, helping preserve its cultural heritage and offering new avenues for livelihood and artistic expression.

With its beautiful collection of artworks and thoughtfully curated workshops, Adaakari has quickly become a favorite destination for our community. We were proud to have Adaakari as a partner for IWD Awards Season 5, and it continues to be an ongoing home for our IWN member meetups. Every time we return, it feels like stepping into a space where art, connection, and inspiration truly meet. 💛Posted on Janhavi DeodharTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
